blog shut down

Well, sorta.

I've started a new blog, one that's just for me. So no comments page, no frills, and only I can read it - how a real journal ("diary" sounds too girlish) should be. It's exactly what I need these days: space where I can write my thoughts and daily minutiae without being self-conscious about it.

This public blog is too high maintenance. It's the idea of having readers; even if I have only a handful, I still edit and revise and plan my posts. It's tedious and time consuming. Maintaining it has stopped being fun a long time ago. The fact that I've saddled this blog with a name that's about music- well, I think it has limited me to what I could post about. There's more to me than my passion for good music.

I've given the blog a cute name: "one of 6,782,405,665." Nice name, 'no? Only, no one else can read it save for me.

Still, I'll keep the Amateur Ear going. It's still me, after all. This space-and its previous incarnations the Amateur Misanthrope, the Ambivalent Misanthrope, and the Failed Misanthrope-has given me a lot of good memories. It's a repository. I'll just write about the things I want to make public here, and save the private daily stuff for the other blog, "one of 6,782,405,665."

Oh, and I'll still use twitter; updates are available here.

But 'til the next post, the Amateur Ear says over and out.

And thanks for reading the Amateur Ear.

long gone before daylight

I adore this album: The Cardigans' Long Gone Before Daylight.

Fans generally agree that it's "a much darker album than their previous works" (-wikipedia). I remember when this blog, back when it was still "The Amateur Misanthrope," even quoted from one of songs, "No Sleep":

and if I had one wish fulfilled tonight
I'd ask for the sun to never rise
if God lent his voice to me to speak
I'd say: "go to bed world!"
It encapsulated my sentiments about the world perfectly.
